Mike Carr
VICE CHAIR OF THE BOARD
Mike joined Disability Africa as an employee in 2016, where he spent 7 years leading on operations - working with our African partners on project development and delivery, overseeing fundraising and communications. Since leaving his role in 2023, Mike has remained active in his support of the organization, leading on the recruitment and onboarding of volunteers, and offering advisory support to the board and workforce. In March 2025, we were delighted to officially welcome Mike back to the organisation in the position of Vice Chair of the board, and the board member responsible for overseeing projects.
An experienced project manager in the third sector, Mike now manages Crisis Charity’s “Changing Lives” program, supporting people with lived experience of homelessness into employment to take greater control of their futures. His expertise in project delivery across Africa and the UK adds immense value to our organisation.
Mike gained a first-class degree in International Relations and Politics at the University of Portsmouth. During his time at university, he researched many development related areas such as the impact of ‘Structural Adjustment Policies’ on African countries. Mike has experience of working with disabled young people in the UK through his work as a volunteer for a variety of organisations and through his family’s support of a young boy with autism over many years.
