Adrian Abbott
Treasurer
Following qualification as a chartered accountant, Adrian worked at Price Waterhouse and then as internal audit manager at Unilever followed by a transfer to a chief accountant role at a subsidiary group. He left Unilever to join a small fast-growing food, farming and estate management conglomerate where over several years his role expanded to include responsibility for finance, purchasing, distribution and, for an interim period, production.
Upon the highly successful sale of the food business to Booker plc, he continued as finance director until deciding to set up his own business consultancy which continued for 14 years. This came to an end with the invitation to return to his previous employers as finance director with additional responsibilities for sales and marketing and customer service.
Adrian joined the charity world in 1982 by becoming a trustee and hon treasurer of Guildford Adventurers Association which subsequently became Disability Challengers. He remained a trustee there for thirty-two years.
Adrian was also hon treasurer and a trustee of a grant-making trust for many years and, more recently has been a very active trustee of a charity providing support to adults with mental health issues. We are delighted to have his broad and extensive experience at Disability Africa.
